Question categories
GeoFides questions cover eleven areas. Each round mixes them, so in one day you may land in Bethlehem, at a shrine in South America and on the road with Saint Paul.
The life of Jesus
Places from the Gospels: Bethlehem and Nazareth, Cana and the shores of the Sea of Galilee, and finally Jerusalem, where Jesus died and rose again. These questions are usually played on the Holy Land map, where you need to be most precise. Where tradition and archaeology point to different places, each of them counts.
Journeys of St Paul and the apostles
The routes of the first missionaries according to the Acts of the Apostles and tradition: Saul’s conversion on the road to Damascus, the first communities in Greece and Asia Minor, the shipwreck off Malta. It also includes places that other apostles reached according to tradition, as far as India.
Biblical places
Places from the Old Testament: the mountains where God spoke to Moses and Elijah, the towns of the patriarchs, the imperial capitals where the Israelites lived in exile, and the ruins of cities known from the books of the prophets.
Shrines of the world
The great pilgrimage sites on every continent: Marian shrines, basilicas and monasteries visited by millions of believers every year. The stories tell where their miraculous images and customs came from.
Eucharistic miracles
Places of Eucharistic miracles, from medieval Italy, Spain and Portugal to present-day Poland and Mexico. We only ask about events recognised by the local bishop or the Holy See.
Marian apparitions
Places where, according to apparitions recognised by the Church, Our Lady appeared, such as Lourdes, Fátima, Guadalupe and Gietrzwałd. We only ask about apparitions approved by the Church or granted a nihil obstat, the Church’s permission for devotion.
Tombs of saints
The resting places of saints that draw pilgrims: from the tomb of St Peter in Rome and of St James in Santiago de Compostela to the shrines of 20th-century saints. The stories tell how the relics came to be where they are today.
Martyrs
Places where Christians gave their lives for their faith, from ancient Rome and Jerusalem to the 20th century in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. We tell their stories with respect and without graphic detail.
Popes’ birthplaces
The towns and villages where popes were born: from Wadowice, the home town of St John Paul II, to the birthplaces of popes from other countries and ages. Many are small places that became pilgrimage sites after the election.
History of Christianity
Turning points in the history of the Church: councils, the baptisms of rulers and nations, great abbeys, divisions among Christians and battles that changed Europe. Every question leads to a place where history turned.
Patron saints of countries
The saints whom nations chose as their patrons: kings, bishops, mystics and missionaries. The answer is the whole country, so a tap anywhere inside it will do.
